# 26 Who did they screw?
I was usually fairly self-righteous about it till I got caught up in one, then I just thought, 'You poor bastard - what have the mongrals done to you...'.
Always wanted to know what they'd done, of course.
Cheers, Max
yes, it's time to put the sunday papers down and get in some serious polling.
we've gotta be quick, because we don't want to miss any of the world cup final!
so, here's this week's topic (it's a long one!!

i'm sorry that due to "technical difficulties', last weekend's poll did not appear, but thanks to all those who enquired about why it was not posted.
glad you're enjoying them!
so, time to put your feet up, so to speak, and have some fun with this weekend's poll.
It was just another change. I sort of thought: 'we're not JW coz the end will be here in 1914 + x years. This is a fix up of an over enthusiastic understanding from years ago. Wonder who's weak enought to fall off coz of this?'
So I guess I just rationalised it. It never really worried me. I was always more taken by the Danial phrophesy of the Kings of the North and South. Could read a lot into the current situation - KofS inexplicity withdrew in 1992, but is now ready to strorm back into the holy place of the totalitarian Islamic KofN to face destruction in the holy lands (or smothing like that...)
Cheers
Mmm... where's that KH to go and make a quick repentance???? :-)
.
since jw are not allowed to live together and cannot have sexual relations before they get married are many jw marriages unhappy?
i hear that they think jw marriages are much happier than normal marriages...can anyone verify that?.
An older Sis told my wife that her daughter phoned her on her wedding night - they were having trouble figuring out what to do!!!!!!! I kinda presume that daughter & son-in-law were taking the piss out of the old lady, but she really beleived it!!! ;-) We cacked ourselves laughing!
Max - who bloody well hopes they could figure out what to do.....

I married at 22 as a virgin JW. Even though I love my wife (who left at the same time as me, thank god) and wouldn't betray her, now at 33 I wonder what it'd be like to be with another woman. Somtimes I want to find out. I wonder if there's good reason behind the traditional thing of guys 'spreading the wild oats' before settling down?

is it just me, or is alchohol consumption at parties and vacations virtually an unwrittten rule of jw-culture?.
when i was in, i did not drink, and i still don't.
i often felt almost ostracized for this by my jw associates.
How could anyone be a JW and NOT drink like a lizzard??? The only way the poor soles can keep any semblance of sanity!!! IME, no one really cared too much if people drank too much. Officially it's not on, but there was enough subjectivness in deciding if a person was drunk or not, to be able to turn a blind eye. If they were blind, comatose and totally smashed, they needed christian kindness - like to sleep on the floor or somthing. One of the few good sides of JWism.
Hic, hic, hic... I'm half way thru my 2nd bottle of wine now, so I'm well trained by the JW :-0)
Max
as an ex presiding overseer and public affairs spokesperson who is now disfellowshipped!!!
i am new to this site and have read with keen interest the many and varied topics that have been posted.
during my 9 years of presiding i encountered certain corrupt c/os for example the friends would treat them like little demy gods, hanging onto their every word, they would, on their visit influence the brothers to part with cash for privledges.
Hi - We had the truly bizzar and unbeleivable situation of having -wait for it... it really is true... two consecutive COs DF'd while still serving our circut!
We'd gone through a funny patch where COs weren't staying long - family problems, ill health etc etc. So there wasn't a regualr CO for about 2 years.
Then they got a guy from a well known family who'd been in corporate life in the past. Legend has it that he started doing odd things like just showing up at meetings without an invitation. He was DF.
The replacement was a true gentleman. He was a kind hearted sort of a guy, but his wife was a cow. Unfortunatly it all got a bit much and he succumed to the charms of an old lady friend and was DF too.
The third guy was too boring to ever put a foot wrong and was creepy too. I never talked to him in the four visits he made before I left! His MS/E meeting were like pulling teeth.
But he was one of only about two COs I didn't like. The other was when I was small. He scared me from the platform. I saw him years later, and he still scared me in a creepy way. Like a tingle up the spine.
Oh well... that's how it was. And all that really is true... I don't have the imagination to make it up or the inclination to sprout nonscene no-one would believe.
Take care, Max
today, tuesday, is the fourth day of celebrating queen elizabeth 2nds golden jubilee in the uk.
whether youre a royalist or not doesnt really matter, the queen is, especially to the english, a part of our heritage.
its history being made in glorious technicolour.. so, theres lots of celebrating been goin on over the last 4 days.
Every Australia Day the local radio station does a massive fireworks show over the river. It's spectacular and 300,000 or more people go. Of course, it's both a Nationalistic and a Birthday celebration (anniversary of the first white invader in Sydney) so JW mustn't go, though a few may peek from the top of a hill far, far away, but can't go and join the heaving mass of the pagan/worldly/Devil inspred down by th waters edge!!
And I've often wondered why Her Britanic Majesty QEII is also know as Queen Elizabeth *II* of Australia. Since the post of King/Queen of Oz was only seperated from the UK job by the Australia Act of 1984, who was Queen Elizabeth [I] of OZ? Cate Blanchet perhaps?
Cheers
i gave a 5 minute part the other day.
i'd readied my trusty navy blue double-breaster and put on the same tie i wore when i gave the bible reading at the circuit assembly once (actually i bought the suit for the same occasion), but this time i had a part at the district convention venue!.
i listened to the two earlier speakers, and just knew they'd get w. my name was announced and i stepped up to the platform, slipped behind the podium as cool as can be, settled my notes, noticed where the mike was, lent my hands on the podium just so, gave a couple of people eye contact, gave an introduction to arouse interest, watched my pausing and my hissing ssss and popping pppp and general proper use of microphone and my modulation.

I used appropriate Gestures and Repetition for Emphasis. There was no opportunity to use an Illustration - given the material was interesting enough as it was. My conclusion was rousing, but there was no applause (being a symposium). I'd of got a W too, four years out of practice!
A Brother from one of my old congregations came over to me after the talk and asked me how I was. I greeted Peter warmly and asked after his family. We'd both come to this place three days a year for years and years.
He was equally warm with me, but eventually he had to ask: 'So, are you still Witnessing?'. We talked a little more about people we knew and went off to lunch (beef in red wine and chicken in white goo) separately.
I'm sure he didn't go to the Casino next door. Come to think of it, nor did I and I even had free betting coupons in my (ex-)meeting briefcase. As a shareholder in that Casino, I know better :-)
Ah... latest example of my 22 years TMS training being used! It was a bit of an Impromptu - but, gee, done that before! I co-presented a project report at an educational conference (and got 5 out of the 45 minutes! Winner!!!! Perth, Western Australia is a 5 hour flight from where I live, so I got flown there and accommodated, fed and watered for four days so as to give a 5 minute impromptu!!! Bonus!!!)
I'm 32, I gave my first 5 minute talk in front of 100 adults when I was 5. I was good at it by the time I was 18. I was very good by the time I was 25 (according to others).
Now I make my living teaching IT and a Train the Trainer certification at a vocational College (for those who're interested: Cisco CCNA Academy, Sys Admin, DBA etc)
Oh well... that's what I did last week and how I've used what the JW gave me - the confidence to Bullshit a lot to a lot of people, the work ethic to live up to most of the Bull, and the slick smooth exterior to get away with it :-)
Take care all...
a while back, i told of my wife going by our old kingdom hall and surprised to see an american flag hanging by the window.
i thought this was picture worthy news, and some of you agreed.. well it turns out the congregation sold the hall to a phillipino church.
1. they doing business with babylon.
I can see how people can be adversly affected in their worship by these commercial and fairly tough decisions, and how it looks odd to see former KH being used for other purposes, but they are *former* KH that (seemingly) can't be supported financially so somthing has to happen.
I don't think the JW really see churches as any worse than commercial organisations - they're all lumped together as old world mostly - so their standard dosn't really seperate between the two buyers.
Nor should the references to maintaining 'proper standards' at the KH be confused with some spirituality being attached to the building and land itself or to the use of the building after it's been disposed of by the JW, SS made that point well.
My feeling is that if they're to be accused of breaching their own religious standards, it should really be their standards they have breached (which are rather legalistic and rationalistic).
If it's the more general standards of fair play or christian kindness/conduct or whatever, then they're open to plenty of critisisim on that basis anyway - but for accuaracy and fairness and to maintain the validity of the critisism, they should be critisised for breaching the standard they are alleged to have actually breached... if that makes any sense ;-)
Well, that's what I reckon anyhow... The alternative is just blasting a fog of dirt at them and hoping somthing sticks. A crude and ineffective approach to a sophisticated adverary - but I guess it has it's place too.
Take care

To the JW a KH is just a building with no intrinsic spiritual value in itself - that'd be idolitary (sp?). So of course they have no problem selling to anyone with the bucks (although renting it to them may be different, like with employment there may then be a tacit consent to their activities). Interesting to see what happens to the old KH though.
